About Weedmaps: Weedmaps is an online legal marijuana community that allows users to review and discuss cannabis strains and local dispensaries. The website is similar to Yelp and contains a database with over 3,000 medical marijuana dispensaries and over 950 strains of cannabis. Welcome to HotBox Reviews! I’m your host, Lucia, today’s review is on Weedmaps!
Weedmaps is one of the few cannabis brands known in mainstream media. From music videos to live events, Weedmaps has made a name for itself inside and outside the cannabis industry.
Weedmaps launched back in 2008 and has been growing since. You can access Weedmaps either by the app or website. The purpose of Weedmaps is to find you cannabis while providing product reviews, and connecting cannabis brands to new audiences.
Let’s do a quick run through of Weedmaps. What I like about Weedmaps is that the developers kept it simple in terms of design layout, which helps me navigate the platform easier, both for desktop and mobile version.
Click on the Home option and it shows the user every feature available nearby. I like how the logos and ratings are showcased under each category. Also, I like how if you are using the app on your phone, you get geolocation already finding you all the nearby deals.
When you click on Maps, Weedmaps drops all the pins where you can find some cannabis in your area. At the top, you can filter through storefronts, deliveries, doctors, and what’s open.
Another cool feature is the Brands tab, the user can browse through products, and select which types of brands to view from at the top of the list. By selecting a product, you get a breakdown on where to buy, price, and the THC percentage.
The Deals tab allows the user to search for nearby deals on the products listed.
If you’ve signed up for an account with Weedmaps, you get a profile that helps track your favorites and reviews left on strains, products, storefronts, and deliveries. You can also check out what other users are up to on the social feed, and follow your favorite brands’ updates via Weedmaps.
Now for the Pros and Cons.
The pros for me were the branding, the smooth transitions between pages, and how easy the whole process was for me to order my cannabis on Weedmaps.
I like how each page contains the necessary information needed to make a decision on a purchase. Plus having the option to locate other retailers for the same product is good for price comparisons and reading reviews is always helpful!
The cons for Weedmaps are the social features are still being updated by the developers. I would like the options to follow other users and see what they are trying and reviewing on their end.
Another con is one I’ve stated before on my other HotBox Review on Leafly, which is there are many outside factors that affect the cannabis you’re smoking such as the environment (how it was grown, and where it was grown) so I’m skeptical on the review portion of Weedmaps.
Below are answers provided by the Weedmaps Team to questions DCN had about their app and future updates.
1.) DCN – What features would the team behind the Weedmaps app say are being improved on at this moment?
Weedmaps – With the launch of our “Brands” feature there are now thousands of brands worldwide to choose from. It can be overwhelming to new users. We are working on ways to make it easier for our users to find exactly the marijuana products they want.
2.) DCN – What is the purpose of the Social feature?
Weedmaps – Our user base is a fountain of marijuana knowledge, culture and incredible images. We are excited to give our users a platform to express and share it all.
3.) DCN – Is the dev team looking at making the Social Feature a way to connect with others? Will users be able to add each other’s profiles in the future? Friend lists?
Weedmaps – Absolutely. Coming soon will be some major improvements to the social features. We will be expanding the functionality around following your friends, brands and favorite dispensaries.
4.) DCN – What future features are in store for users?
Weedmaps – We take all of our user feedback very seriously. We are hard at work improving the user experience for new users of marijuana. It’s easy to forget that as the industry grows, more new users are coming to Weedmaps looking to learn about cannabis. We want to be a credible, reliable resource for them.
