Each week we highlight entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry for our viewers to learn more about the leading cannabis executives of our time.
This week, we highlight Chloe Banales of Ascended Alchemy. While finishing her last semesters of graduate school to become a licensed acupuncturist, Chloe is committed to empowering visionaries to optimize their most exciting lives and strategize how to expand their influence and increase their sales. She partners with people and companies to create the results that they desire through coaching and inspired event experiences.
In our interview with Chloe, we asked a variety of questions to gain further insight into how she found cannabis, her journey of launching a business in the cannabis industry and much much more!
First off Chloe, congratulations on being featured as this week’s entrepreneur of the week! Can you please share with our readers what ignited your spark to launch a cannabis startup?
Chloe Banales: Of course! At the beginning, I would find myself saying that I never thought that I would end up in the cannabis industry. Now, five events later I am humbled to confirm that everything always happens exactly the way it should. A year ago, I was hosting events like masterminds and entrepreneur workshops. After a pivotal networking experience in Los Angeles, I had an idea to pivot my business model into dining events to curate inspired conversations that create massive positive impact. As timing would have it, I also got to catch up with a childhood friend about our mutual interest in elevating the conversation about medicine in the psychedelic world and what we could do to get involved. Four hours of amazing conversation and a couple of acai bowls later, Ascended Alchemy was birthed.
So what exactly is Ascended Alchemy?
Chloe Banales: At Ascended Alchemy, we host events for high-performing professionals to connect a with the like-minded community in an elevated dining experience. As an event production company, we also partner with clients inspired to create unforgettable experiences for their own network.
How are you helping the cannabis industry in a positive way?
Chloe Banales: Inspired by the healing properties of food and plants, we are creating elevated experiences by offering a safe space where individuals can reconnect with themselves and their community. We believe in learning through experience, so that is why we want to give our guests a chance to learn more about how to empower themselves in their own health, through cannabis infused dining. We are disrupting our cultures normal relationships towards food and plant medicines.
It is with this mission that we facilitate elevated dining experiences. We are committed to bringing inspiring, authentic conversations at the dinner table. This is where thought-provoking ideas will be manifested, new connections will be sparked, and every relationship is enhanced.
We want to invite people to reconsider their preconceived notions for what is said to be good for you and what is said to be bad for you. From food to relationships, to medicine, and sustainability – We are challenging what is normal.
How amazing, I can’t wait to attend one of your events! When it comes to being an entrepreneur, having a mentor or role model is important. Who is your role model and why?
Chloe Banales: Great question. Elon Musk, for his relentless pursuit of a vision bigger than the world – LITERALLY. Through every trial and difficult moment, he still shows up for his vision to save humanity. Lisa Nichols has been foundational in my personal growth as a leader, too. Yet, when I really think about this question I find that there in more truth in the answer that EVERYONE is a role model for me. I am always learning from each of my relationships, teachers, coaches, friends, and family members. I am so grateful for that.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Chloe Banales: A bulletproof sense of belief in YOUR vision, a strong embodiment of resilience, and embracing a growth-mindset in every area of your life.
If you could talk to one person in history who would it be and why?
Chloe Banales: My maternal grandmother, when she was about my age. From reading about her in my grandfather’s autobiography and what I’ve learned from my parents, she was a pretty tenacious woman with a big impact in what is now Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego.
What is the hardest part when founding and launching a startup business?
Chloe Banales: Mastering the art of stretching time. As a full-time graduate student involved in multiple businesses at various levels, I am very intentional with my time and energy. I have a lot on my plate, and I am enjoying every bite!
What is the best piece of advice you would want to share with those who are looking to launch a cannabis business?
Chloe Banales: Invite yourself to get really, really clear on what value you want to give and create from that space of inspiration. How will you creating this company give value to the collective community?
Is there anything that surprised you when you began your journey as an entrepreneur in the cannabis industry?
Chloe Banales: Not necessarily! I am always excited about how much opportunity there is to get involved in this industry.
Being a founder, we are bound to make a mistake or two, what is one of the biggest mistakes you made that turned into the most important learning lesson for you?
Chloe Banales: One learning lesson we have experienced is the necessity to practice a lean method to building a new business.
I love highlighting the different methods each startup takes when it comes to funding the business, as every company has their own strategy. Where did your organization’s funding come from?
Chloe Banales: Honestly, it’s all mine and my co-founder, Brittany’s own cash and savings. As of now, we are grateful to be able to work part-time/contract opportunities with various businesses and people to sustain Ascended Alchemy production costs and marketing while we complete our individual graduate programs.
Wow, thank you for sharing. Let’s go down the path of self-care. How do you stay balanced?
Chloe Banales: Solid self-care practices are a saving grace in the lifestyle I choose to live. This includes meditation, Olympic/powerlifting, hikes, writing, stopping by parks and beaches on the way home instead of sitting in traffic and nourishing my curiosity with podcasts and books.
What book has inspired you the most?
Chloe Banales: I love the book, The Alchemist! Some of my other favorites include The Power of Vulnerability, Think and Grow Rich, The Four Agreements, The New Psycho-Cybertics, How Not To Die, Aspire, The Surrender Experiment, and Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself. (Can you tell that I love reading?)
You highlighted some I haven’t heard before! I will be checking out those suggestions after our interview! So, next question, excluding yours, what business would you say inspires you the most?
Chloe Banales: Graced By Grit, KB Pure Essentials, Dr. Bronner, Isagenix, Gabrielle Bernstein, and Passion Planner are some of the companies/businesses that come to mind.
How can we as an industry continue to make a positive impact in society?
Chloe Banales: As a leader, always seek to understand before we judge. There is no right or wrong way, there just is – So as we speak up for what we believe to be our truths, I invite you to resist using blame or shame to “make yourself right.” As the saying goes, “Be the change that you wish to see in this world.” Stay curious, stay inspired.
Well Chloe, thank you so much for this lovely interview! I loved the advice and positive insight you have been able to share with our readers. Is there anything you would like to share with our readers before I let you go?
Chloe Banales: I would love to invite anyone with a vision to reach out to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or join us for our next live events in September. Like I mentioned before, my vision for Ascended Alchemy is to serve as a platform for those who are empowering others to optimize their experience of life and elevate the conversation about cannabis.
