She currently mentors many startups in the emerging cannabis space in Canada within the legal framework. She also founded Pleasure Peaks, a product line specializing in women’s sexual health.
In our interview with Antuenette Gomez, we asked a variety of questions to learn more about Pleasure Peaks, and what it takes to build a business in the cannabis industry!
DCN: Antuanette Gomez congratulations on being featured as this week’s entrepreneur of the week and for all that you do! Can you please share with our readers your elevator pitch for Pleasure Peaks?
Antuanette Gomez: Pleasure Peaks is a Women’s sexual health line that includes cannabis. We have cannabis lubricants and suppositories and are developing more medical applications. We also do cannabis education classes, and cannabis couple retreats globally.
DCN: What ignited the spark in you to launch your business?
Antuanette Gomez:I launched this company when I noticed that cannabis can help women have a quality sex life regardless of their diagnosis, anxieties, traumas and/or mental blocks.
DCN: When you finally decided that you wanted to launch a business in the cannabis industry, what was your experience like when telling your family and friends? Were they supportive?
Antuanette Gomez: At the time the cannabis community was very hard to navigate; with legalities constantly changing made launching a business very difficult. Finding mentors and role models was even harder, so thats when I began recruiting more women!
DCN: How is your organization/business helping the cannabis industry in a positive way?
Antuanette Gomez: Pleasure Peaks offers hope for women with endometriosis, cervical cancer, rape survivors, to women who haven’t ever had an orgasm. PP brings women the power to take control over their sexual health, something that is often never seen or talked about. We’re looking forward to start manufacturing our products at the end of this year with a licensed producer.
DCN: As we go into 2018, what is one huge accomplishment that you or your team achieved last year that you would like to share with our readers?
Antuanette Gomez: One huge accomplishment has been that we have already begun to inspire hundreds of women. Being a role model and leading by example to pave the way for future women is everything to us.
DCN: What are some challenges you faced early on and how’d you beat them?
Antuanette Gomez: I couldn’t find legal representation, now I actually represent seven law-firms.
DCN: Did you raise capital to fund your business or what creative strategies did you use to execute on minimal cash flow?
Antuanette Gomez: To be honest, I had minimal startup costs.
DCN: Did you have to give up anything to get you where you are today?
Antuanette Gomez: There was not much that I gave up. I’ve always been a business type, I know that hard work will always pay off.
DCN: What is the best piece of advice you can give to others looking to launch a company in the cannabis industry?
Antuanette Gomez: You need to have a strong support system, from personal circles to the circles in the boardroom.
DCN: What’s the hardest part of founding and running a startup?
Antuanette Gomez: Finding time, strategic timing is everything in this industry simple because of the rate its growing in. You can miss a deal or competitive edge in moments.
DCN: Is there anything that surprised you about being an entrepreneur in the cannabis industry?
Antuanette Gomez: *ageism
DCN: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Antuanette Gomez: The most important one would be determination. Second to problem solving. Third, math.
DCN: How do you stay balanced?
Antuanette Gomez: I make sure to keep an organizer on hand to fit in all my gym time and meetings in one place.
DCN: What book has inspired you the most?
Antuanette Gomez: Freakanomics and everything by Eckhart Tolle.
DCN: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Antuanette Gomez: HollyWeed North cannot stop blowing my mind with all the press releases coming out. I’m very impressed with the business model this Listened Producer chose. And not to mention their amazing executive team, look them up!
DCN: How can we as an industry continue to make a positive difference in society?
Antuanette Gomez: I think the industry needs to be more conscious on social responsibility. Cannabis is a mega industry and still in its infancy stage, we must always be critical thinking on the impacts we make as executives in this space, not just the dollar signs.
DCN: Thank you, Antuanette, for sharing your story and offering such real and insightful advice! It was so great being able to feature you as this week’s entrepreneur of the week!
